(10.04.2022) Manchester City – Liverpool / Match Preview

Freesuperbets football match prediction

As far as Premier League games go, few can be more important than first-versus-second. When you factor in that first has seen a massive lead whittle away, too, to the point where second can go clear at the top with a win, it is hard to fathom a more important fixture in the league. As Liverpool take the hours trip to Manchester, then, can they complete the incredible turnaround that has been brewing for a few months now? Or can City bit their momentum in the bud and go four-clear?

Home News

City are beginning to see some injuries clear up, but they will still be without Ruben Dias. The key defender has been a vital part of their turnaround since losing the title in 2019-20. As such, City will be coming into this without one of their most important players. The return to fitness and form of almost everyone else, though, means that it is the only real issue that City need to overcome.

They will be expecting to see a full rotation, with Rodri and Kevin de Bruyne likely joined by either Ilkay Gundogan or Bernardo Silva. Both players have a history against Liverpool, so Guardiola should feel pretty confident that his side can live up to their billing on the day.

With injuries clearing up, though, City might experiment and look to play someone like Raheem Sterling or Silva through the middle instead to create more vertical moments for Liverpool to consider.

Away News

The Reds come into this game with only one potential injury doubt – and it is a big one. Fabinho suffered a head knock in the away win against Benfica in midweek, and might miss out here. Though it was shrugged as a minor cut, concussion protocols mean that Liverpool will be sweating until the night of the game.

Klopp is likely to spring some changes, with the ‘dream midfield’ of Fabinho, Naby Keita, and Thiago likely to see one replaced by Jordan Henderson. The Reds captain plays in most of the big games and should be back in the team for this one. Joel Matip will likely return to the defence after Ibrahima Konate ruined a scoring match by being at clear fault for the Benfica goal in Portugal.

Numerous options exist for Klopp to choose from, though, and Fabinho aside no other injury problems have been declared.

This should be an outstanding match, and the attacking nature of both teams means that these games are rarely dull. The 2-2 draw earlier this season was one of the best games of 2021, and this promises to be among the best of 2022. Both teams would be keen to win, but there is so much riding on the game that we could see a repeat of the Anfield match-up.

In what should be a pulsating clash, we can see plenty of action and several goals – calling a winner, though, is a far more challenging prospect than one would have expected.
