Paris Saint-Germain’s pursuit of Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt during the January transfer window did not materialize into a concrete deal, as the 24-year-old opted against a move to the French capital.
According to reports from L’Équipe, de Ligt declined the opportunity to join PSG despite significant efforts from the club to secure his signature. PSG had been actively seeking to bolster their defensive ranks throughout the transfer window, particularly after the injury setback to Milan Skriniar.
Despite bringing in Lucas Beraldo earlier in the window, PSG remained in the market for a central defender to provide additional depth. They explored various options, including Diego Llorente from Leeds United and Leny Yoro from Lille OSC. However, priority was given to negotiations with Yoro, with PSG intending to revisit discussions in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Ultimately, PSG was unable to finalize an agreement for a central defender before the January window closed, leaving them to continue with their existing squad for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
