Even the most dedicated Chelsea fans might have struggled to recognize their former star, Eden Hazard, as he embarked on a new sporting challenge. The 33-year-old football legend looked completely different, donning the gear of cycling team Intermarché–Wanty, including a black helmet and sunglasses, as he attempted to conquer Mont Ventoux, one of the toughest climbs in cycling.

Intermarché first shared the image on social media, showing Hazard ready for the daunting ascent. The Belgian footballer later posted a picture near the top of the infamous climb, visibly struggling with the steep, barren slopes. Mont Ventoux gained notoriety in 1967 when Tom Simpson died trying to win the Tour de France with a bold attack.

Fans were amused and surprised by Hazard’s new endeavor. One joked, “Nah, what are these [Eden] Hazard side-quests,” while another commented, “If it’s not on @strava it didn’t happen…” Some even urged, “Bring him to Tour de France please,” highlighting their excitement about Hazard’s cycling pursuit. Ex-World Road Champion Remco Evenepoel, who once captained the Belgian U16 national football team, humorously responded: “Phenomenon!”

Hazard has taken up cycling since retiring from football. In October, the World Tour gifted him a bike. Intermarché shared on social media: “Eden Hazard starts his new career with Intermarché-Circus-Wanty. Eden and his brother Kylian visited our store Want You Bike and service course, they were seduced by our Cube Bikes. Welcome to the family and enjoy your new adventures, guys!”
