Manchester United are reportedly targeting Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi as part of their summer transfer plans. As manager Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his squad, Zubimendi has emerged as a key candidate, with a reported £53 million release clause in his contract.
United have already secured the signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro this summer and are expected to make further additions in the coming weeks. The club is also considering Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte and Benfica’s Joao Neves as potential targets.
Xabi Alonso, who managed Zubimendi during his tenure with Real Sociedad’s B team before moving to Bayer Leverkusen, has praised the midfielder, emphasizing why he would be a valuable addition to Manchester United. Alonso’s endorsement comes from his deep admiration for Zubimendi’s playing style and capabilities.
“Martin’s a player all coaches would want,” Alonso told The Guardian in September 2022. “He’s generous, he always thinks more about his teammates than himself. He has that ability to generate play, to make those around him better, always offering solutions; to improve the move. He understands what the next step is before the ball gets to him. He has that ability to organise, the axis. I loved working with him.”
United are intensifying their pre-season preparations ahead of the new Premier League campaign, having already played friendlies against Rosenborg and Rangers. The team is set to travel to the United States for three more friendly matches, with hopes of solidifying their squad with the potential addition of Zubimendi.
