Having enjoyed one of their finest runs of success in decades, Liverpool are very much a club who are on the upward curve. The Merseyside giants have become one of the biggest clubs in England again, capturing European and domestic honours once again. However, concerns over the contract situation revolving around some of their key players, including Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker, has had fans worried for some time.
However, good news for Liverpool fans appears to be emerging: both Salah and Becker are expected to sign new long-term deals this summer. With agreements with both until 2023, the club are keen to extend offers to both players and ensure they stick around for at least another couple of seasons. Other key names in the club, such as Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk, are further away from agreeing new deals but are still expected to do so in the near future.
This comes as great news for the club as they look to retain the core of talent that won the club English and European honours recently. While some of the players are approaching the end of their peak, the fitness and conditioning of the squad means there are few concerns about the longevity of any of the major players who take part at Anfield.
As such, expect new deals to arrive as a matter of minor urgency. Liverpool, though, are also expected to be busy in the transfer market, with numerous players exiting the club to make way for one or two major summer signings. A new midfielder is expected to arrive, as well as a new forward option, with several of both positions expected to move on this summer as Liverpool move on from role players who no longer contribute.
Will Liverpool keep all of their current stars?
It appears so. Despite having a rather hardline stance when it comes to landing new deals with veterans, Liverpool are expected to pay up to keep the title winning squad together as much as is possible. Several exits are expected, though one star who might move on is the disappointing Naby Keita. The Guinean arrived as a key asset for Klopp, seen as the heir to Steven Gerrard’s position – so much so that he even received the No. 8 shirt.
However, injuries and an inability to show up with any meaningful contribution in big games has left Liverpool frustrated at the way the transfer has panned out. Having waited a year for Keita to arrive, his time on Merseyside has been a major disappointment. Liverpool are expected to cash in on many squad players, but first-team stars like Keita are also believed to be attainable if the club decides to move on.
With so much work to be done, though, fans will be happy to see that the players who have contributed so much – like Salah, like Alisson – are due to be rewarded for their loyalty and their quality on the pitch.
